Methodology

The benchmark is based on data collected from 20 organizations implementing ServiceNow CMDB, combining quantitative survey data with expert validation from Einar & Partners' senior ITOM thought leaders.

A two-level analysis approach was applied, integrating data-driven benchmark insights with practical field experience to define best practices across the CMDB journey.

A successful CMDB implementation is defined as delivery within agreed timeline, budget, and estimated internal effort, aligned with stakeholder expectations.

The benchmark was guided by the following research questions:

  • RQ1: What factors influence the overall internal effort of infrastructure teams in a CMDB project?
  • RQ2: To what extent does having a pre-existing CMDB influence the overall internal effort in a CMDB implementation?
  • RQ3: What are the main data loading methodologies, and how do they impact stakeholder effort?
